Over 50 years ago, Canadian entrepreneur Leonard Simpson opened a Toronto shoe store called Town Shoes. Town Shoes quickly expanded across Ontario and became a favourite shopping destination. After many years as a successful shoe retailer, Town Shoes saw a market for big box family shoe stores that offer quality and fashion at discount prices. In 1992, Town Shoes opened a new subsidiary called The Shoe Company. The Shoe Company’s first store in Toronto’s Lawrence Plaza was an instant hit.
